At the conference of economic performance, the CEO of BlackBerry, Thorsten Heins, reported the financial hardship that runs through RIM. The company has accumulated $ 518 million in losses in the first quarter of 2012 . The worst results ever, although the previous fiscal quarter and lost $ 125 million .

The company pioneered the smartphone market has seen their income reduced by 43%. RIM hopes that the coming months continue to be very difficult due to increased competition in the mobile phone market, low sales volumes and falling stock market caused by delayed BlackBerry 10. News of the major loss of BB10 and the delay caused a 17% drop in the value of the shares of the company following the closing of the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Heins, of course, said he was not satisfied with the results, and will continue working to make substantive changes. For now, the only change was the elimination of 5,000 jobs worldwide. RIM expects to save about 1,000 million dollars and laying off nearly a third of its workforce .

During the last quarter, it sold 7.8 million units of the BlackBerry. The previous quarter were sold three million devices. Another fiasco of the Canadian company has been its tablet Playbook , which has sold far fewer copies than expected.

But BlackBerry still maintains the type in some parts of the world, while others consider it finished. In Spain for example, BlackBerry Curve 8520 is selling well, especially among young people attracted by instant messaging (BlackBerry itself or WhatsApp).
