An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude on the Richter scale with epicenter in northern Chile was felt in the cities of La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba of Bolivia, reported the Seismological Observatory of San Callisto.
The earthquake, which originated 210 kilometers of Bolivia, tuvon in this country a magnitude of three degrees on the Richter scale, according to the expert of San Calixto Observatory, Teddy Griffith.
The earthquake was felt at 6:10 local time (1010 GMT). The Centre had no reports of damage to the infrastructure of homes or buildings in La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba, where many people felt a kind of dizziness and found that some objects move. Griffith explained that people living in tall buildings were startled by this little earthquake.
When asked about the number of earthquakes recorded San Calixto Observatory in early 2012, Griffith said that regions with greater movement earthquakes are Potosí (southwest) and Cochabamba (center).
The expert from San Calixto said the department? Potosi there is more seismic activity across the Chilean border. ? In Cochabamba is a shallow seismic activity, and recently in Oruro, movements that are continuous but do not cause many problems and only cause the shock of the population? he said. He recalled that in Oruro in 1931 had an earthquake of 4.4 on the Richter scale, another in 1982 from 4.3 in the same scale. These movements are creating pressures are recorded in different parts of the crust and cause release of energy.
The last record of an earthquake was on May 8 with 3.7 degrees on the Richter scale, the second in less a week in the department of Oruro, Bolivia to the northwest.
